"Something to Make Us Smile" I haven't had a great day. My side mirror is smashed as I got too close to the side of the one-lane bridge. It rained too hard for me to geocache, and my kid was snarking at me at the supermarket because I will only look at people who do not provoke me into shrieks or panic attacks. On the other hand, I have some credits and apologies from the telcom I almost posted about in an earlier phlog post but didn't, because I had accumulated anger I chose not to share with beautiful people out there in the dark. I have been charged an alarming monthly amount, because my late husband said to the internet setup field technician, without committing to in writing, we might get a television. The field technician assumed we would get a television, and was confused by the absence of one. We were charged for TV cable by the telcom. Nobody has been in the flat for two years other than paramedics, plumber, dishwasher installer, and field technicians. I haven't watched television at home since 2008. Juliet B. Schor wrote that a television was a salesperson oncall 24/7 installed in the home. I can spend money without need of a television. I need a serene sanctuary. I get ads in my mail, and when I'm inattentive, online. Televisions are on in hospitals, car dealerships, butcher shops, even on gas station pumps and in some city buses. Why? Does no one like quietude, or conversation? Strangers forced together won't agree on what is worth watching, conversations could be fostered instead without advertising. I'm not saying I don't watch television shows. I'm watching the 2022 Codgers, errrr... Kids in the Hall reboot, and I'm eager to see what happens in Barry Season 3 and Episode 4. I borrow box sets of shows, and download others. But so much not worth watching, and so much money charged! To watch shows that come and go. Barry's Season 2 and Season 3 are three years apart! And yes, I watch them without advertisements. ----------------------- I did do something today (Sunday over here UTC - 7 PDT) I only dreamed about doing: identified a lost silent film from a film still. Thanks to Richard Arlen's recognizable peanut-shaped head, I identified him in a still from a 1928 Western co-starring Mary Brian, "Under the Tonto Rim." I found this on r/classicfilms, crossposted from the subReddit r/Westerns, and remain proud of myself, even if I had no idea I was being charged up the wazoo by the telcom. Nobody has been in my flat, okay? I haven't been in this country since 1996, okay? Even if I stupidly damaged my car. I did one thing right and I stanched some financial bleeding. The US Library of Congress annually hosts a cadre of scholars, archivists, and film enthusiasts on a cinematic hunt to find clues that will lead to identification of unknown, or misidentified silent and early sound films at "Mostly Lost" workshop in Culpeper, Virginia. I am not a big film historian, but I'd really like it if the clips were compiled and put online so that we poor amateur people can try. I feel like "Under the Tonto Rim" was my one-time dream come true.
