Of course I'm writing about it, so it obviously sparked something within me, or I would've just moved on. Truth be told, I'm also a lynx user when it comes to browsing the gopherspace on my laptop. And yes, I do get annoyed by some things that people do when they put files up for reading. Permissions errors and randomized filenames are the worst I've come across in my personal experience. It's why I tend to give my files names that reflect their contents as best I can, or use the title of the phlog post without making it too long. And of course, I try to test things out before I consider the update _finished_, but I'll always miss something these days with how tired I usually am. That said, somthing that The Wandering Geek said really hits home for me: >> Gopher is not the web. Gopher is, well, gopher. Let's keep it that way. I completely agree with this statement. It's part of why I haven't bought into Gemini, since I don't really have a personal need for a half-way point between the web and gopher. Gopher is gopher, the web is the web, and Gemini is Gemini. Let's keep them their own things. |~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~| [0]: gopher://sdf.org/1/users/xiled/phlog/2021/20210420_gopher_gemini [1]: gopher://gopher.unixlore.net/0/glog/gopher-annoyances.md \~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~/
