Forecast - Macquarie Island

Weather Situation:
A high pressure ridge to the north maintains a northwesterly stream over
Macquarie Island until a weak cold front crosses Macquarie Island Thursday
morning. A ridge moves over on Friday before a warm front in the evening. Warm
and moist northerly winds continue until a cold front arrives Sunday afternoon.

Forecast for the rest of Wednesday 16 October
Fine with low cloud.
Winds: Northwesterly 20 to 25 knots, increasing to 25 to 30 knots in the late
afternoon, possibly reaching up to 35 knots late evening.
Seas: 2 to 3 metres, increasing to 2.5 to 3.5 metres in the evening.
Swell: West to northwesterly 4 to 5 metres.

Forecast for Thursday 17 October
Patchy Drizzle with low cloud.
Winds: Northwesterly 25 to 35 knots, shifting west to northwesterly 20 to 30 knots in
the afternoon.
Seas: 2.5 to 3.5 metres gradually decreasing during the afternoon to 2 to 3 metres by
late evening.
Swell: West to northwesterly 4 to 5 metres, decreasing to 3 to 4 metres during the
afternoon and evening.

Outlook for Friday 18 October
Cloudy, but fine. Possible fog or mist in the afternoon.
Winds: West to northwesterly 15 to 25 knots, tending northerly 15 to 20 knots in the
evening. Seas 1.5 to 2.5 metres. Swell1: Westerly 2 to 3 metres.

Outlook for Saturday 19 October
Light rain with low cloud and possible fog or mist.
Winds: north to northwesterly 15 to 25 knots, tending northerly 10 to 15 knots later
in the day. Seas 1 to 2 metres. Swell1: West to northwesterly 1 to 2 metres

Outlook for Sunday 20 October
Drizzle and low cloud with possible fog, increasing to rain in the afternoon,
and easing in the evening.
Winds: North to northwesterly 15 to 20 knots, tending westerly 20 to 30 knots in the
afternoon. Seas 1 to 2 metres, rising to 2 to 3 metres in the evening. Swell1:
West to northwesterly 1 to 2 metres.
