Weather Situation
A high pressure ridge lies across much of the state, extending from a high
pressure system in the Tasman Sea. The ridge will persist for the next few
days. A weak trough lies across the southeastern interior of Queensland. The
trough will weaken today. A deeper trough may move east across western and
interior Queensland from Friday, reaching southeastern and central Queensland
over the weekend. This trough is likely to drive shower and thunderstorm
activity as it moves eastwards.

Forecast for the rest of Thursday 17 October
Sunny. Winds northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h tending north to northeasterly 25 to
35 km/h in the morning. Daytime maximum temperatures 35 to 40.

Mostly sunny. Slight chance of a shower in the southwest in the afternoon and
evening. Near zero chance of rain elsewhere. The chance of a thunderstorm in
the afternoon and evening. Winds north to northeasterly 25 to 40 km/h becoming
light in the evening then becoming northwest to northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h in
the late evening. Overnight temperatures falling to between 19 and 24 with
daytime temperatures reaching around 40.
