Weather Situation A trough is lingering over South Australia this morning while a low pressure system over the Tasman Sea is moving east. A cold front is expected to deepen and form a low pressure system over South Australia today, which will move southeast while the front crosses New South Wales during Friday and Saturday. After this a ridge of high pressure is forecast to extend across from the west, bringing more settled conditions to the region. Forecast for the rest of Thursday 17 October Isolated showers and thunderstorms across the inland and the northern ranges and coast, tending scattered across the southern half of the inland. Severe thunderstorms possible across much of the central and western inland with damaging winds, large hailstones and localised heavy falls possible. Daytime temperatures above average, tending well above average in the far west. Northeast to northwesterly winds, becoming fresh in the far west and along the south coast during the day. Forecast for Friday 18 October Scattered showers or areas of rain across the inland and southern half of the ranges spreading east during the day and clearing from the west. Thunderstorms possible in most areas, becoming likely across the ranges and inland during the afternoon with some possibly becoming severe. Daytime temperatures a little above average in the west and near or slightly below average elsewhere. Northeast to northwesterly winds becoming fresh across the west and south during the day, then shifting west to southwesterly in the west later. Fresh to strong northeasterly winds along the coast and strong winds about the Alpine peaks. Forecast for Saturday 19 October A few showers across the eastern half, most likely about the southern slopes. The chance of thunderstorms in the far north. Dry and mostly sunny across the western inland. Daytime temperatures above average along the coast and a little below average across the west. West to northwesterly winds in the east, fresh about the ranges. Southwesterly winds inland. Forecast for Sunday 20 October The chance of showers in the east, mainly along the northern half of the coast. Dry and sunny in the west. Daytime temperatures near average.
