Lithuania Votes for a President by VOA News Lithuanians are voting Sunday to elect a president. Incumbent Dalia Grybauskaite is widely expected to win a second term. However, it is not clear if she will win enough votes to avoid a runoff later this month. The election comes amid Russia's takeover of Ukraine's Crimean peninsula. Lithuania was ruled by Russia during the Cold War. President Grybauskaite has welcomed the presence of NATO troops in Lithuania since the upheaval in Ukraine. The 58-year-old president told reporters recently "Europe must understand that Russia is trying to redraw the post-war map and borders." The former European Union commissioner, who is a karate black belt, promised on the campaign trail last week that she would not flee in the face of Russian aggression, saying "I'll take a gun myself to defend the country, if that what's needed for national security." Some information for this report was provided by AP and AFP. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/lithuania-votes-for-a-president/19121 52.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/lithuania-votes-for-a-president/1912152.html
