Thousands Attend Moon's Funeral in South Korea by VOA News Thousands of mourners attended funeral services for Unification Church founder Reverend Sun Myung Moon Saturday in South Korea. The elaborate service in Gapyeong, outside Seoul, marked the end of 10 days of mourning for Moon. He died from complications of pneumonia two weeks ago at age 92. Since Moon's death, thousands of people paid respects to the "self styled messiah," whose body was put on display in a glass coffin. Moon's Unification Church became well known for mass weddings and its vast business holdings in Korea and abroad, including the United States. Critics liken Moon's church to a cult and called into questions his business dealings, describing his most ardent followers in derogatory terms such as "Moonies." Moon's hillside burial site overlooks the church's massive headquarters in Gapyeong. Moon's youngest son is expected to remain as church president, and Moon's wife becomes the formal head of the Unification Church. Some information for this report was provided by AFP and Reuters. __________________________________________________________________ [1]http://www.voanews.com/content/thousands_attend_unification_church_f ounder_funeral_in_south_korea/1508559.html References 1. http://www.voanews.com/content/thousands_attend_unification_church_founder_funeral_in_south_korea/1508559.html
