A some words about the Gopher protocol Many of my readers use the Lynx text browser to read Gopher. But this is actually a bias. Gopher is not just a text-based protocol. It also supports Jpg/Gif and HTML (not JS). In order to view Gopher sites, you need a regular Web browser with the extension. For example, Mozilla + gopher plugin. Then you do not need to download images or HTML pages with a team to view them. You can view Gopher like a regular Web site. After all, this was originally intended. For example, I am using on Windows XP/9x - my browser build is SeaMonkey. You can download Seamonkey in my Gopher Hole. In fact, Gopher is the grandfather of the Web. It was from the gophermap file that the idea of htacess in web servers was stolen (I am convinced of that). The fact is that, in fact, the Web site was originally laid out with the help of htacess. The original difference between gophermap and htacess was only in the ability to manage locks. Therefore, use regular graphical browsers with Gopher support. It is very simple and, most importantly, convenient.
