Insmouse is the only Ego-Shooter for the Nintendo Virtual Boy. It is one of 8 Japan-Only Games and the 6th rarest of all 33 (22 different) released Virtual Boy Games. It was developed in 1995 by I'Max based upon a Horror-Movie which was only shown in Cinemas in Japan. Most people consider this to be the worst game for the Virtual Boy, but I don't, I think it's quite cool. With it's 45 levels it's much longer than many other VB-Games, it runs smooth, the sound is quite good and it has a great atmosphere. I haven't played all of the released games yet, but I haven't seen such a cool intro and titlescreen in any other Virtual Boy Game (OK, except 3D Tetris...). Much more could have been made out of it, though. Insmouse contains a total of 45 different levels. While playing through the game you'll see 13 of them. After you completed a maze the next one will eighter be higher or lower depending on the time you needed to complete a maze. If you were fast enough, you'll enter the next highest Level. At the end you can get one of four endings. You'll only get the best ending (A) if you completed the 13 levels fast enough. That's not as easy as it sounds, especially in the last levels... It has doors on both sides every 2nd screen. It is nearly impossible to get Ending A, because you have to complete this maze in under 8 seconds (!! or less?), so you have to a have a lot of luck: the key MUST be in the long corridor so that you only have to run straight to the exit and beside that you'll have to kill the monster in that corridor as fast as possible. I still couldn't get Ending A, my best time was 8 sec and it was still too slow!! In other words: an happy end in which the guy manages to escape from the mansion. Ending B: ----------- At first the mansion is shown with some effects in the sky, then some kind of a monster's face shortly appears in front of the mansion. After that you see this guy (supposedly the hero of the game) standing in front of the mansion when suddenly a creepy hand appears behind him. Then there's a cut to a dark scene where you can only see half of a monster's face, with some pairs of eyes in the dark behind the face. After that you see a gun firing and some eyes disappear, then the gun is shown again, but it ran out of ammo. The eyes reappear and you see the fog from the intro reappearing in front of the mansion. After that the credits are shown. Ending C: ----------- This is by far the coolest ending in my opionion: at first the mansion is shown with some effects in the sky, then some kind of a monster's face shortly appears in front of the mansion. After that you see this guy (supposedly the hero of the game) standing in front of the mansion. It becomes dark around him and then you can see him being hit by a lightning in front of a big monster's face for a few seconds. In the next scene you see a monster that looks very much like a human... It's the guy! After that the credits are shown. Ending D: ----------- At first the mansion is shown with some effects in the sky, then some kind of a monster's face shortly appears in front of the mansion. After that you see this guy (supposedly the hero of the game) standing in front of the mansion when suddenly clouds of ashes rise from the ground of the foundation of the mansion as if it was collapsing. Then a screen sppears that says: "THIS IS NOT TRUE ENDING. LET'S RETRY! Ending D" _______________________________________________________________________________ [10] TiPS ___________________________________________//__________/ ______________________/ Especially in the higher levels bullets are rare, so try to save your ammo. That means to only attack a monster if it is blocking your way to an item or the exit or if 2 or more monsters trapped you. If you attack a monster, try to shoot it from one or two screens away, so the monster can't attack you while you CAN attack it. Never rest while exploring a maze, your highest goal is finding the key and after that the exit as fast as possible to enter the next highest level. Beeing too slow results in a lower ending, so hurry! When you found the key but haven't found any Orb, run through the maze and enter as many doors as possible and you may luckily enter the correct one, the exit! Sometimes the bigger monsters break through walls, so if you see stones flying in the corridor in front of you, be careful, because that means that a large monster is near. But besides that, this can sometimes be a nice shortcut. _______________________________________________________________________________ [11] FUTURE ___________________________________________//__________/ ______________________/ There is still a lot of work left for me.
