Sulpher E-mail: briansulpher@hotmail.com Version 1.5 Dates Written: December 13th, 2005 I dedicate this to the NES fans out there, as this one is part of the NES FAQ completion Project of 2004-2005, courtesy of the FAQ Contributor Board. We honour the most truly awesome and great system... the Nintendo Entertainment System! Never mind about Atari, Commodore 64, Colecovision, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, or any of the newer systems, we all know that the good old NES is where true gaming is at! Also, for Cougar, Howler, and Koonce. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and you will never be forgotten. ----------- Version 1.0 ----------- -Submitted guide on December 13th, 2005 ----------- Version 1.5 ----------- -Submitted guide on December 31st, 2005 -Thanks to Adaml, new information about the Dogs and the Fish Barkers will be added to the Strategies section -Thanks to Damian Yerrick, the B Button now has a function listing within this FAQ -A new enemy has also been discovered, and it has been added to the Enemies section ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Table Of Contents------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Introduction 2) Controls 3) Enemies 4) Items 5) Strategies 6) Final Word ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Introduction--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) The following is the creation of Brian P. Sulpher, and any resemblance to the actual story is coincidence. A mother cat, living in the large sprawl of a metropolis... her kitten has got out of the house where they live, wandering the dangerous streets, which include speeding cars, street dogs, and open manhole covers. Her only hope is to set out into this dangerous world, recovering her kitten while avoiding all risks, bringing the kitten back to the safety and warmth of her home! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Controls----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) The following section will examine the controls, helping you get the best chance for the kitten to get back home safely. D-Pad...: The direction pressed will cause the ever moving mother cat to change her walking direction to the direction pressed. SELECT..: Used on the menu screen to change the cursor from a One Player to a Two Player game. START...: Pauses/unpauses the game. B Button: Opens/closes the manhole openings. A Button: The cat will leap high into the air. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------Enemies----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) This section will look at all the enemies and obstacles that can disrupt or end the rescue operation of the mother cat. o-----o | Car | o-----o These vehicles speed recklessly up and down the roadways of the city, not breaking for anything, including a cat out on a rescue operation. Although it is possible to leap over the roadsters, it is not advisable as a second vehicle will often be following along, not leaving time for another leap, so best to only leap across roads horizontally, not vertically (however, it might pay of to leap, so use it as a last resort measure). o-----o | Dog | o-----o The main enemy for the mother cat, these overall wearing fiends will relentlessly track the mother cat down, coming out in larger and larger groups as the time spent in the level increases. Jumping them is a great way to get by these fiends, but try to time the jump to be as close to their bodies as possible, or they may have time to turn around and get the mother cat before she lands from her leap. o-------------o | Fish Barker | o-------------o Whenever the mother cat sneaks into a FISH store, stealing a fish to grant her invulnerability to Dogs, thsi fellow will charge out of the shop a moment later, looking o use his butcher knife on the meowing heroine. Run away at top speed, creating large distances to keep him at bay. o---------o | Manhole | o---------o For the most part, these obstacles will never open, allwing the mother cat to stroll right across without any problems. However, sometimes as the mother cat approaches, the iron covers to the sewer will swing open, attempting to cause the mother cat to fall into the filth below! o-------o | Pilon | o-------o These randomly appearing obstacles will put a stop to the walking of the mother cat, but they can be leapt over. However, they will disappear just as randomly as they appear, so it is often safe to run at one that is on screen already, but be aware of their appearances at all times, as they can slow the mother cat enough to bring doom to her efforts! o-------------o | Sewer Snake | o-------------o After the Mother Cat has opened a Manhole, this slimy fellow will sometimes come slithering on out. If this occurs, the Mother Cat must run away at top speed, or face a lethal dose of venom being deposited into her bloodstream. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------------Items------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) This section will look at the Items within the game, explaining their uses. o------o | Fish | o------o When this Item is snagged by the mother cat, she will be able to walk through Dog enemies without worry of being hurt, BUT Cars, Manholes, Pilons, and Fish Barker all can still hurt the mother cat as if she had never collected the Item in the first place. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Strategies---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) This section will list some strategies for the mother cat to get by enemies and locate her kitten with the greatest of ease! a) Try to search methodically while wandering the city. If a search is random, it will make it tougher to find the kitten, costing the mother cat time as she has to march through areas she has already passed through. b) When moving around the edge of the city blocks, keep a keen eye out for Dogs that appear suddenly. They will often spawn in small groups as the mother cat comes near, leaving her precious little time to get out of the way. c) If the mother cat is fast approaching the road, and Cars are coming into play, the best way to keep the mother cat from becoming road pancake is to press UP or DOWN. This will cuase the mother cat to push into the house/tree that is in her way, keeping her stationary until the road traffic clears, allowing the mother cat to cross in peace. d) An important thing to remember when picking up the kitten is that the mother cat will no longer be able to leap into the air at all. This means that you must have an escape route abvailable after picking the kitten up, followed by being able to plan ahead for Cars if crossing the road must occur as well as avoiding other obstacles, particularly Manholes since they only open as the mother cat draws near. e) Saving the Fish Item for making the run for the kitten is sometimes a great idea, as the Dogs can get really numerous as the stages advance. However, this is not a save all measure, due to Dogs being the only ones affected by the power of the Fish Item. f) After Round 30 is completed, the Dogs will no longer appear. This may sound great, but it is actually a curse as the Fish Barker will replace them, essentially rendering the FIsh Item useless (it only works versus Dogs). g) Opening Manholes is a great way to cause enemies to fall away, but open too many and it will be too tough for the Mother Cat to get her kitten back home, due to the inability to jump the gaping holes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Final Word---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6) As is the usual, this walkthrough is copyright property of Brian P. A mighty strange title, it does indeed have some primitive stylings of the early days of the Famicom/NES, but it also has some play to it. Definitely worth checking it out, having a good old time saving the kitten while ducking those dastardly dogs! ;)
