Sulpher E-mail: briansulpher@hotmail.com Version 1.2 Dates Written: January 3rd to January 23rd, 2005 I dedicate this to the NES fans out there, as this one is part of the NES FAQ completion Project of 2004-2005, courtesy of the FAQ Contributor Board. We honour the most truly awesome and great system... the Nintendo Entertainment System! Never mind about Atari, Commodore 64, Colecovision, Sega Master System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Sega Genesis, or any of the newer systems, we all know that the good old NES is where true gaming is at! Also, for Cougar, Howler, and Koonce. I miss you, and I hope you are living it up in the afterlife as you did in this world. You will always be in my memories, and you will never be forgotten. ----------- Version 1.0 ----------- -Submitted guide on January 23rd, 2005 ----------- Version 1.1 ----------- -Submitted guide on March 28th, 2005 -I added in Honestgamers as a site allowed to use my FAQs ----------- Version 1.2 ----------- -Submitted guide on June 22nd, 2005 -I added in Retronintendo as a site allowed to use my FAQs -Altered the format to make it easier on the eyes of the reader ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -----------------------------Table Of Contents------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Introduction 2) Controls 3) Bricks 4) Power-Ups 5) Final Word ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------Introduction--------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) In a land where Arkanoid started it's own sub-genre of block breaking paddle and balls, Crackout is another game trying to cash in on that same Arkanoid feel, but the game actually lucked into creating something that is different enough to warrant a play. The power-ups work a tad bit differently than those of this type, the bricks have some unique characteristics, and their are mini-boss enemies in many of the levels! Check this one out and you will not be disappointed. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Controls----------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2) The following section will look at all the controls that you need to know to crack the bricks holding you from victory! D-Pad : LEFT and RIGHT move your paddle in the corresponding direction. SELECT : No apparent use. START : Pauses/unpauses the game. B Button: Launches the ball and gives speed boost to movement when held. A Button: Launches the ball and sets off power-ups. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------Bricks------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 3) This section will look at each type of brick, including: point totals and toughness. o------o | Blue | o------o Point Total: 50 Toughness : One Hit o------o | Gold | o------o Point Total: 10 Toughness : Two Hits o-------o | Green | o-------o Point Total: 40 Toughness : One Hit o------------o | Light Blue | o------------o Point Total: 60 Toughness : One Hit o--------o | Orange | o--------o Point Total: 30 Toughness : One Hit o------o | Pink | o------o Point Total: 20 Toughness : One Hit o--------o | Silver | o--------o Point Total: 0 Toughness : Indestructable o--------o | Violet | o--------o Point Total: 10 Toughness : One Hit ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------Power-Ups---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4) This section will look at al the Power-Ups available to you, including: description, abilities, how to use. Note that all Power-ups fall from smaller enemies that populate most levels, so killing them repeatedly will often yield an Item that will make clearing a level far easier than it normally would. o-------------o | Double Ball | o-------------o Description: A small object that looks like two balls jammed into one another. Abilities : Allows a player to throw out a second ball, though it falling off the screen will not penalize your paddle totals. How To Use : Once the Item is collected, press either button to send the second ball into play. o------------o | Heavy Ball | o------------o Description: a large, blue ball that has a white border. Abilities : This Item will cause the bricks to not reflect the ball, as the ball will now continue on it's course as if the bricks were not there WHILE clearing the bricks at the same time. How To Use : Collect and reap the benefits of this lovely device. o--------------o | One Ton Bomb | o--------------o Description: A weight with "1T" marked on it. Abilities : This Item will destroy all lesser enemies on screen, but not the larger enemies. How To Use : Collect it and set it off to bring down annihilation upon the hapless foes. o-----------------o | Paddle Extender | o-----------------o Description: A large, blue rectangular object that is similar to a Megaman Boss Robot Weapon charger. Abilities : Your paddle will extend in size, leaving something that is about twice as wide as it was previously, making it far tougher to lose the ball. How To Use : Much like an impotence drug, take it watch it grow longer! o-----------------o | Remote Missiles | o-----------------o Description: A massive, elongated... oh wait, I already did the "johnson" joke. Anyway, it looks like a rocket would, blue in colour (flaps included on the sides). Abilities : these allow your paddle to launch a missile into the air (straight upwards), then the missile can be detonated at the desired height. Note that this is a limited Power-Up, only yielding a total of five missiles before it runs out, reverting the paddle to it's normal self. How To Use : Press the A Button to start the missile into the air, then press the A Button again to cause it to detonate. Note that it passes through enemies and bricks, so aim directly at what you intend to destroy. o---------------o | Scatter Mines | o---------------o Description: A small, four-pronged device. Abilities : This Item will enable your ball to shoot out four small pieces of shrapnel, which are capable of dealing one hit of damage to any brick that it makes contact with (meaning that Gold Bricks would need the second hit to disappear). How To Use : Press the A Button during the flight of the ball to send the shrapnel out. Note that if you press the A Button again while shrapnel is still in flight, the previous shrapnel will disappear while the new stuff starts it's attack. o---------------o | Slowdown Doll | o---------------o Description: A blue, oddly shaped doll with a fro. Abilities : Simply put, it slows down the speed of the ball, making it easier to keep it in play. How To Use : Grab it and watch that ball slam on the brakes, although the effect is only for a limited time as the ball will gain speed constantly. o-----------o | Stopwatch | o-----------o Description: A small, blue stopwatch that has a large hand on it (a clock hand, not a human hand). Abilities : When this Item is implemented, all enemies will be frozen in place for a duration of 5 seconds. How To Use : Grab a hold of this cliched Item, and the enemies will not move from their current position for a brief period. o----------------o | Superhero Doll | o----------------o Description: A caped figure (emblazoned with an "H") that flies from the top of the screen to the bottom in a fairly fast manner. Abilities : The level will end and your paddle will be off to the next level. How To Use : Simply grab the Doll as it flies downward. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------Final Word---------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5) As is the usual, this walkthrough is copyright property of Brian P.
